Dow Constantine, King County Executive and fellow Rotarian was our guest speaker at this morning’s meeting. A fourth generation Washingtonian and life-long resident of King County, Executive Constantine, has been in office since 2009. Highlights of his presentation included environmental issues, mass transit and addressing homelessness through programs such as Best Starts for Kids.

Woodinville Rotarians welcomed all visitors starting with the pledge, gratitude thoughts and a song, courtesy of Bronco and Marilyn.
Guest speaker, Patsy Treece spoke about Music 4 Life, which provides ready-to-play musical instruments at no charge to public school districts for use by students in need throughout the region. Music 4 Life does this because research shows that children who participate in instrumental music activities do better in numerous other academic areas and because we believe that instrumental music can and does save lives. It is a gift that we feel passionately about passing on to future generations.
They believe that every child should have the opportunity to enhance their education through music. Music education affords myriad benefits throughout life, and we aspire to provide opportunities for all children to reap those benefits.
An impromptu classification talk by PDG Alex Hopkins was a nice surprise to the morning program.
Confession fines, happy dollars and raffle ticket wins by SOA Bronco, assisted by 2nd time guest, Mark Ihrig, rounded out a fine morning meeting.

Today’s Woodinville Rotary guest speaker was Eleanor Vogelsand, Community Relations Manager at Close Up, speaking on civic education.
Close Up informs, inspires, and empowers young people to exercise the rights and accept the responsibilities of citizens in a democracy.
We believe that a strong democracy requires active and informed participation by all citizens; therefore we seek to reach participants of every race, creed, geographical community, socio-economic level, and academic standing. Close Up welcomes participation on its programs without regard to gender, race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin or disability. To carry out our mission, we partner with educators, schools, and youth organizations throughout the country to help young people develop the skills and attitudes to become informed and engaged citizens. Since 1971, over 850,000 participants have participated in Close Up programs.

Our morning meeting began with the first ever “Rotary group invocation” prompted by John B. Hughes. Many members shared their thoughts on the Woodinville Rotary Peace Auction held this past Saturday. It was a perfect way to kick off our meeting!
Guests were introduced and announcements came next, including UW Bothell Rotaractor Mia Harris who promoted the UWB Rotaract SOS Sock & Scarf Drive going on this month until October 31. New or lightly used socks & scarves or cash donations will be accepted and donated to local homeless organizations in our community. Thank you to all who have donated!
Membership Director Tany Slater-Gautreau presented an update and led a group feedback and discussion session. Lots of great ideas were raised this morning.

This is the 3rd Peace Builder event sponsored by the UW Bothell Rotaract Club. Hope to see everyone there!

There will be 2 drop off dates: June 14 and July 14. Please bring your donations to a WRC morning meeting. Thank you to all who have already started their Spring cleaning and brought a car load today!
Our special guest speaker was fellow Rotarian Dave Nichols, presenting about Shelter Box (https://www.shelterboxusa.org/), providing emergency shelter for families displaced by disaster or conflict.
John updated everyone on the clubs Peace Initiative. The “Rotary Charitable Giving Peace Train” has left the station, and the first stop is this years charitable wine offering. For $100 donation, Donors received a bottle of “Prevail” pinot noir wine produced from the grapes at the Molbak Block of Grace Town Vineyards. This is a project of the Greater Grace Wine Appreciation Society (GGWAS). There is a limited amount of this premium wine available. Proceeds are to be directed to the Dolan’s “Love a Neighbor” non-profit Foundation for current operational expenses. Many signed up this morning to donate!
